After being criticized by US President-elect Donald Trump and Rep. Bennie Thompson for receiving the National Citizens Medal this year, past representative Liz Cheney held her ground.
Trump, who slammed President Joe Biden for awarding Cheney and Thompson, claimed they were given “fake awards” and called Cheney as” crooked” on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Cheney immediately fired again, writing on X,” Donald, this is not the Soviet Union. You didn’t change the truth, and you didn’t make us quiet.
On Thursday, Biden acknowledged Cheney for her seven times in Congress, including her role as vice chair of the particular House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Thompson, who chaired the council, was even praised by Biden for his “lifelong devotion to safeguarding our Constitution”.
In response to Trump’s censure, Cheney reminded him of the false promises he made about the 2020 election. ” Consider all your lies about the election machines, the poll workers, your many allegations of fraud that always happened”? she wrote. ” Some of your doctors have been sanctioned, disciplined or disbarred, the judges ruled against you, and lots of your own White House, management, and campaign advisers testified against you”.
Cheney also took a jibe at Trump’s refusal to accept fight, bringing up former vice president Mike Pence‘s unwillingness to overturn the election results at Trump’s demand. Consider how your former vice president prevented you from overthrowing our country? she wrote.
Cheney ended her answer with a stern caution:” We remember. The American citizens must now remain as the handrails of our Constitutional Republic as you again take office.
