The man behind the fatal New Year’s assault in New Orleans, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, had planned the abuse for months, using Meta clever glasses to record video of the area in the lead-up to the assault, the FBI revealed in a press conference on Sunday.
Jabbar, 42, visited New Orleans half in the weeks before the invasion, primary in October and again in November. During his visits, he used the clever glasses to picture a bicycle tour of the French Quarter, apparently planning his abuse, the New York Post reports.
According to FBI Special Agent in Charge Lyonel Myrthil, the spectacles allow customers to record video and photos without using a live streamer. But, they were certainly activated during the New Year’s Day harm. ” They were never deliberately recording during the attack”, Myrthil confirmed.
On January 1, Jabbar drove a occupied Ford F-150 Lightning vehicle through a group on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring 35 another.
Additionally, new surveillance footage was discovered by the FBI that details Jabbar’s altercation with two homemade weapons in the street. In the videotape, you can see the brown coat and the glasses inside the vehicle.
The FBI also confirmed Jabbar’s engagement with ISIS, revealing that he had posted video online claiming to have” joined ISIS earlier this year.” Researchers are still looking into Jabbar’s affiliates both domestically and abroad while he was the only victim of the invasion.
In addition to the explosives, two firearms — a semiautomatic pistol and a rifle — were recovered, with the rifle purchased in a private sale in Arlington, Texas, on November 19. The FBI believes Jabbar likewise set fire to a short-term rented home in New Orleans, where bomb-making supplies were discovered.
Although Jabbar’s attack was disastrous and claimed many lives, neither of the homemade weapons he dropped in the area exploded.
