When a frog’s wings froze to the edge of a lake close to a sewage treatment plant, a fire division in the European state of Lower Saxony intervened.
A representative for the Stuttgart fire department reported that the team managed to rescue the bird from its plight.
According to the local Braunschweig Zeitung paper, the bird was next handed over to a Braunschweig pet safety organization that furthermore arrived at the scene.
According to the European dpa news agency, it was initially unknown whether the animal was injured or tired. But, Nabu, a conservation organization for nature, claims that good ducks and other birds do not typically freeze to ice.
Perhaps if they waddle around on the ice for hours, for animals do not get cold, Nabu said. The animals ‘ arms have a highly effective heat exchange program, which means they lose much heat even when their legs are in immediate contact with the snow. That also prevents the glacier from melting beneath them.
But, injured or ill animals can thaw to the ice and require assistance from humans when the cold persists for a long time.
