Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday certified her lost to President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 general election.
Before givingl during the joint session of Congress, Harris and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) chatted for a while before taking the stage.
After reading out her full Electoral College votes, the vice chairman received a standing ovation from Democratic politicians. Republicans also cheered as Trump’s numbers were announced.

Trump won 312 electoral vote to Harris’s 226 vote by carrying the main swing state. He likewise was the first GOP leader to get the popular vote in 20 years, netting 77.3 million votes to Harris’s 75 million.
After reading the final documentation and delivering the joint program, Harris immediately left the House floor. As the evil president exited, her son, Vice President-elect J. D. Vance, was seen taking selfies with a number of Republican politicians.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told the , Washington Examiner , that Harris “was really specialized and non-partisan” but had tougher terms for his parliamentary colleagues.  ,
” I may have done it without the cheerleading that our group received political seats.” We’re not it as members to a protocol. We’re it, democratically, as ballot tellers. We’re just there to get the vote”, he said. ” So I was a little shocked that we had that kind of passionate applause response, but that’s not a big deal compared to what we saw four years ago, when an attempt was made to overturn the election result with fraud, deceit, and murder,” said one participant.
In all, the time proved an exceedingly ordinary yet specialist turn following the events of the previous election’s certification.
On Jan. 6, 2021, lots of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in hope of overturning his 2020 reduction to President Joe Biden after Harris’s father, former Vice President Mike Pence, refused to obstruct the certification of Biden’s win.
Harris is not the first vice chairman to publicly acknowledge their own electoral defeat. Both original President Richard Nixon and former Vice President Al Gore performed that same work following the 1960 and 2000 elections, both.
Gore somewhat silenced a number of Democratic politicians on Jan. 6, 2001, who sought to subject to former President George W. Bush’s small success. Before he conceded to Bush, Gore won the popular vote but fell short of the Electoral College level, launching weeks of recounts in Florida.
The vice chairman is formally appointed by the Constitution to manage the political certification process, but they are not specifically required to do so. Former Vice President Hubert Humphrey skipped the qualification of the 1968 election, which he lost, to enter a death.

Harris hasn’t spoken in public since the 2024 vote, but she said in a film that was posted on social media Monday night that “one of the most important rules of American democracy is the peaceful transfer of power.”
” As much as any other process, it is what distinguishes our system of government from king or tyranny”, the evil president continued. As vice president of the United States, I’ll carry out my legal duties by certifying the results of the election of 2024. I will defend this spiritual obligation in the spirit of my unwavering faith in the American people, my respect for the country, and my devotion to our Constitution.
