A bridge passenger was saved on Wednesday when she went over as it approached the Tsawwassen terminal.
British Columbia Ferry, a company that provides the ferry services, said that the incident occurred during the 7: 45 am ( local time ) sailing from Duke Point near Nanaimo. Emergency procedures were soon in effect, and the victim was brought offshore and cared for by BC emergency health providers. It occurred at Queen of Alberni ferry, part of BC Ferry, which provides regular ferry service between Vancouver ( Tsawwassen ) and Nanaimo ( Duke Point ).
The passenger’s situation has not yet been revealed.
The incident resulted in the cancellation of two sailings on the Duke Point-Tsawwassen route: the 10: 15 am ( local time ) sailing from Tsawwassen and the 12: 45 pm ( local time ) sailing from Duke Point.
Other traveling options were provided, including services using Nanaimo’s Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay path. Shiryn Sayani, a spokesperson for BC Ferries, stated that the customer service center may contact the damaged passengers to rebook or confirm cancellations.
According to Times Colonist, instances like this are uncommon, and our personnel are trained to respond quickly and effectively to ensure the safety of all passengers, Sayani said in a statement. She added that the position involved cooperation with officers, the Coast Guard, emergency health providers, and other specialists.
According to Insp. James Sandberg, a spokesman for Delta Police, the affair was deemed a mental health occurrence and the victim was taken to the hospital. Officers did not provide additional information.
As per the local media, BC Ferries resumed normal operations with the 12: 45 pm ( local time ) departure from Tsawwassen, and the company thanked customers for their patience during the disruption.
