Dhaka’s ask for her abduction to stand trial was related to Bangladesh’s time government led by Muhammad Yunus on Thursday, according to the interim government of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina is a Bangladeshi member, but we have requested that India transfer her. Her situation in India is unrelated to this demand. It is not a matter of our thought”, a international business official told reporters in a regular press briefing.
Hasina, 77, has been living in India since August 5 last year when she fled Bangladesh following a massive student-led protest that toppled her Awami League’s ( AL ) 16-year regime.
Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal ( ICT) has issued arrest warrants for Hasina and some former Cabinet ministers, experts, and military and civil officers for” crimes against humanity and genocide”.
Hasina and 96 others ‘ documents were revoked on Tuesday by the time administration because of their alleged links to the July killings and enforced abductions.
Asked for feedback about the press reports that New Delhi recently extended Hasina’s immigration while Bangladesh revoked her political card, official Rafiqul Alam said on Thursday that Dhaka did not “have more information, so we will never speculate” as he was asked for comments.
But he said when a Bangladeshi individual’s id is scrapped, the region concerned is informed through Bangladesh’s operations and in such cases, a card is no longer required.
Hasina’s repatriation was authorized by Bangladesh last month to be tried on charges of mass killings committed during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s ( IDSM)-led uprising that overthrew her Awami League government on August 5. Hasina discreetly left for India the same day.
Since she was even accused of enforced disappearances during the previous 16-year law, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal, which was established to prosecute the dried partners of Pakistani soldiers ‘ crimes during its 1971 Liberation War, has so far issued two imprisonment subpoenas ordering authorities to arrest her and arrange her court appearance by February 12.
New Delhi gave an acknowledgement of receipt for the extradition request, but it did not respond to the letter.
Asked how long India could delay responding to Bangladesh’s note verbal and the diplomatic process involved, the spokesman said,” There is no black-and-white answer to this”.
” We will wait for India’s response”, he said.
