Keep your applause, though, even though that is an stimulating headline. There are, as they say, “terms and circumstances”.
Chicago councillors Silvana Tabares and Raymond Lopez, who are both Democrats, are proposing a change to the Windy City’s” Welcoming City Ordinance”. They may have heard the electorate ‘ complaints, or they may have accepted the fact that Tom Homan has the all-clear plans to succeed Donald Trump as president.

Whatever the circumstances may be, the alder sent a letter to the city government this week detailing the proposed modify, which included the following:
Re:
Amendment to Municipal Code Section 2-173-042 to allow City agents or companies to collaborate with federal immigration soldiers regarding individuals who have been arrested for or have been found guilty of criminal activity.
The federal government’s failure to enforce the Welcoming City Ordinance or the roman labyrinth that citizens had navigate to enter the country in accordance with the law are not addressed by this amendment. Instead, it will change how the City of Chicago interacts with our federal companions when non-citizens enter our town and choose to disregard the law in four distinct and specific categories, preventing national authorities from searching neighborhoods for those who choose to undertake dangerous crimes.
That sounds fine on standard, especially given the Laken Riley Act and the numerous attack and other offences committed by illegal aliens, including the rampage of gangs like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. However, In a speech published on X, Lopez made it clear that the modify, which would reduce the “no-exceptions” section from the scheme, was a preemptive move to preserve the Trump administration from getting involved and protect “law-abiding illegal and non-citizen residents”. Legitimate laborers, if you will.  ,

Yesterday , @AldermanTabares and I filed a Rule 41 Recognize for our proposed amendment to the Welcoming City Ordinance. Following Wednesday, we intend to call the problem for a ground vote.

The argument at play is that if Trump/Homan’s ICE immediately checks in and detains judicial aliens, some of the above “law-abiding undocumented and non-citizen residents” might also be taken into custody and deported. That, contends Tabares and Lopez, would be beyond the white, or beyond the border, if you prefer. Lopez concludes:
We are certainly concerned about Mayor Johnson or President Trump’s political drama. Our goal is to protect those who are undocumented and non-citizen inhabitants of Chicago who uphold the law and make a positive contribution to our town while awaiting a safe passage out of the darkness. This WCO amendment, which is small in range and specific about when it can be activated, will protect those individuals while upholding the spirit of our city’s history and expat traditions. ( sic )

Also, it’s a stop. However, the councillors are forgetting that legal action is just part of the equation. It is a large part, to be sure, but it is not the sole factor. As it has been reported on PJ Media and elsewhere, several of Chicago’s non-white and non-affluent people have had it eyeball-high with issues like illegal immigrant base tents and emphasizing income, housing, and assistance for fugitives over U. S. citizens in the area. I wrote a bit about a study of Chicago residents in 2023, and here is an excerpt from it:
Also of note: the survey said that 67 % of Democrats, 74 % of women, 79 % of blacks, 71 % of Hispanics, and 75 % of West and Southside voters felt that supporting migrants takes resources away from actual Chicago residents in need. According to fifty percent of respondents, the sanctuary area designation made life less secure in Chicago. 55 % of the black and Hispanic respondents were included in that figure. Compared to 31 % of black people and 38 % of Hispanic people, 39 percent of white people in the North and Northwest factors said Chicago should continue to be a sanctuary city. Only the News had a offer from Matthew Podgorski of M3 Strategies:
White people in Chicago are overwhelmingly in favor of keeping sanctuary cities by roughly double digit profitability. Non-whites, Hispanics, negroes, and others, are overwhelmingly in favor of ending shelter places. Black Chicagoans, plus 20 % ending shelter area.

Provided Chicago’s fairness system functions, the new proposal may affect the city’s crime rate. ” Presented” and “might” are the official terms here. However, they may also leave Chicago out in the cold while Lopez and Tabares go through the movements of threading the knife.
