Since the days of George Washington, when leaders leave office, they usually offer the country some kind of farewell target. Washington’s was written and published in the American Daily Advertiser. Andrew Jackson’s was, according to the History Channel, the longest in past at 8, 247 terms.  ,

Harry Truman was the first broadcaster to do so from the Oval Office. Andrew Johnson’s apparently bad reputation and the warning from David D. Eisenhower against the “military-industrial complex” led many presidents who followed him to choose not to say a conventional goodbye to their constituents.  ,
However, there is one farewell address in past that frequently stands out among the rest, particularly for those who were born and raised in the 20th century: President Ronald Reagan. On this day in 1989, Reagan sat behind his table in the Oval Office and began:  ,
This is my 34th and final moment speaking to you from the Oval Office. We’ve been together 8 years now, and soon it’ll be occasion for me to proceed. But before I do, I wanted to share some ideas, some of which I’ve been saving for a long time. It’s been the pride of my life to get your President. I have written a lot of kudos in the last few months, but I may say as much to you. We appreciate the opportunity you gave us to offer.
The later president continued to say that while leaving is” such sweet sorrow,” he was looking forward to returning to his house in California and enjoying some freedom once more, even though he would miss the beauty and history of Washington, D.C.

” It’s been quite a trip this century, and we held up through some gloomy seas. And at the end, along, we are reaching our destination”, Reagan continued as he went on to record some of the obstacles the state survived during his administration. However, he claimed there were two things of which he was most pleased:  , and  .
One is the financial treatment, in which the people of America created– and filled– 19 million new employment. The other is the improvement of our confidence. America once more regarded in the world and sought after for management.
Unfortunately, it seems like those are the two points that Americans are currently looking for and a reason why they voted for Donald Trump in 2024.  ,
One of the most beautiful parts of the conversation, in my opinion, was when the president expanded on his definition of the” shining town” that he frequently used when talking about the United States:  ,
I’ve been talking about the magnificent city all my social life, but I’m not sure if I ever actually understood what I was saying. But in my mind it was a high, proud town built on mountains stronger than sea, wind-swept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace, a town with complimentary slots that hummed with banking and imagination. And if there were capital surfaces, those partitions had doors that could be used by anyone who had the desire and the desire to travel here. That’s how I saw it, and see it however.

As far as I know, Joe Biden hasn’t already issued a goodnight handle of his own — though to be honest, I’m not even sure he knows he’s still leader and/or is about to leave business — therefore, I thought you may enjoy watching Reagan’s conversation in its entirety. Whether you’ve seen it before or are watching it for the first time, you might find it refreshing to see a president who loved his country, spoke of it favorably, and made an effort to improve it. Thankfully, the upcoming transition of power appears to indicate that we might be on the verge of that once more.  ,

God bless the United States of America in particular!  ,
