By posting a website to a charity site associated with the Democratic Party, US Senator Elizabeth Warren sparked controversy when she attempted to raise money for California wildfire patients.
On X, Warren, a Democrat representing Massachusetts, asked her supporters to cut a contribution between United Way of Greater Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. She assured that” 100 % of your payment will go straight to these companies”, and included a connection to ActBlue, a Democrat Party fundraising program.
Stephen Miller quoted her post and said that Elizabeth Warren “is now using the LA fires to solicit funds instantly to Act Blue” in a slew of negative comments.
Many accused Warren of using the horror to raise money for social ends. One answer read,” Visualize trying to steal money from the LA fire victims to support your own dishonest political party.”
Many users took to social press to claim that there was no charge for using the charity program, which instead allowed gifts to be made to the Los Angeles Fire Department and United Way.
X, the system where the article was made, flagged more context below Warren’s message. It read,” This is not a connection to charity. It is a website to a Democrat charity program that takes 3.95 % of all trades. The Los Angeles County Fire Department Foundation and United Way of Greater Los Angeles may be given as direct donations to these organizations.
Recently, ActBlue, the Democratic funding program, has been in trouble, especially after Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares expressed concerns about the contribution confirmation process, according to CNN.
