A health official said on Sunday to ease international concerns over a potential pandemic that human metapneumovirus ( HMPV ) cases are on the decline in northern China.
” The mortal metapneumovirus is hardly a new disease, and has been with mankind for at least some years”, Wang Liping, scholar at Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said.
” At current, the level of positive cases in people metapneumovirus detection is fluctuating, and the rate of good cases in northeastern provinces is declining, and the rate of good cases among people aged 14 and under has started to decline”, she added.
Wang claimed that no new infectious diseases have been found, and that the respiratory illnesses that are now perseminating in China are ascribed to well-known diseases.
After photos of packed hospitals filled with veiled patients became popular online, there were growing concerns about a rise in HMPV cases in northern China. The World Health Organization stated that it has not yet heard of any unexpected occurrences in China or elsewhere.
HMPV is a distinct from Covid-19, according to authorities, because it has been around for years and has some resistance for most people, especially those who are five years old.
Health authorities have urged the government to remain quiet while adhering to simple precautionary steps and have stressed that HMPV is never a new disease.
HMPV is a disease related to the respiratory syncytial virus and it usually causes fever or cold-like ailments such as illness, coughing, and nasal congestion. Although these symptoms typically go away on their own, the disease may infect young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems with lower respiratory tract infections.
