CAIRO: An explosion at a petrol station triggered a large fire in northern Oman, killing at least 15 individuals, health authorities said Sunday.
According to a declaration from the Houthi rebel-run Health Ministry, the explosion took place on Saturday in the state of Bayda in Zaher city. At least 67 people were injured, including 40 in critical issue.
According to the government, rescue teams were looking for those who had been reported missing. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the explosion.
A large fire that sent columns of smoke into the clouds and left cars charred and burning was documented in video that was widely circulated online.
Bayda is controlled by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who have been at conflict with Yemen’s globally recognized authorities for more than a decade.
Yemen’s civil war began in 2014, when the insurgents took control of the capital, Sanaa, and much of the region’s north, forcing the government to retreat to the south, then to Saudi Arabia. In an effort to reestablish the internationally renowned authorities, a Saudi-led partnership joined the conflict in March 2015, supported at the time by the U.S.
More than 150, 000 people have been killed in the conflict, mostly as a result of the conflict, which also included citizens and soldiers, and has also led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in history.
