Local advertising and the Austrian Foreign Ministry reported on Sunday that an Austrian woman had been abducted in Agadez, in northeastern Niger.
The government reported that local authorities on the ground were in contact with Austria’s official in Algeria, which is also liable for Niger.
Local media outlet Air-Info Agadez identified the individual as a 73-year-old who has lived in Agadez, some 900 kilometers ( 560 miles ) away from the capital city of Niamey, for more than 20 years.
No group claimed responsibility for her violence. Niger officials have so far never made any comments on the event.
