Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, who was detained last week for supposedly trying to start a fire near the Kenneth Fire in Los Angeles, is officially an immigrant without legal refugee status in the US.
Sierra-Leyva is captured in the video that went viral on social media. Social media platforms, especially X ( formerly Twitter ), have been flooded with photos and debates about his arrest.
A 911 caller had reported a person trying to start a fireplace in the 21700 block of Ybarra Road in Woodland Hills. Sierra-Leyva was quickly subdued by locals and handed over to the Los Angeles Police Department ( LAPD). At the time, he was apparently holding a makes.
Who is he?
Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva is an illegal immigrant in the United States. Sources from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) informed Fox News on Sunday that the suspect, identified as Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, is a Mexican national.
Sierra Leyva is currently in custody for a parole violation, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE). He has not been officially charged with fire, but many agencies are questioning him about the fire. According to a Fox News reporter on X, his judge presence is scheduled for Monday, on which additional information about the situation may surface.
The event, however, has reignited conversations on California’s temple laws, as ICE plans to house a detainer demand with the LA County Sheriff’s Department. According to California’s sanctuary state laws, which limits cooperation with national immigration government, this request is improbable to be honoured, wrote Bill Melugin.
