Former New Mexico Rep.  , Eliseo Lee Alcon, a notable Democrat from , Milan , who received a Bronze Star for his services as a battle nurse in the Army during the Vietnam War, died Monday after battling liver cancer. He was 74.
Alcon’s dying stirred homage from members of the state Legislature, who remembered the former senator as a steady hero of his , Western New Mexico , area. Alcon, a part of the Government for 16 years, passed away surrounded by his home, according to a media release from New Mexico House Democrats.
” Our beloved partner and lovely friend Eliseo passed away in a very sad manner. During his 16 years in the House,  , Rep. Alcon , was a tireless fighter for his western , New Mexico , society and our company gentlemen and women”, the news release stated.
Alcon was first elected to his , House District 6 , chair in 2009. Reelected in November, Alcon announced his immediate pensions from the , House of Representatives , in December, citing a needed to focus on his health.
” Pull Chairman , Lee Alcon. His reputation is safe: as a devoted family man, a Veteran, and a wonderful senator. He served as one of my best Chair while we were freshmen together in the House. A sad loss for , New Mexico. I’m praying for his home”, Former House Speaker , Brian Egolf , said in a blog on X, previously Online.
County commission in , Cibola , and , McKinley , regions likely select one to replace the chair vacated by Alcon. Gov.  , Michelle Lujan Grisham , will therefore assign one of those people to carry out the majority of Alcon’s two-year name.
Also liked by his acquaintances, Alcon served as chair of the , House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee , and the , House Labor, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.
Alcon claimed in a December interview that he had been fighting kidney cancers for a while and that his condition was now” only to terminal.” He also claimed that he had just been placed in hospice care.
” We fought it as long as we may, so we will just go with it and see what happens”, he said in the discussion.
