In a nutshell, here’s left-leaning crime and punishment: Two men were detained at Vice President Kamala Harris ‘ lavish Brentwood home early on Saturday night as wildfires ravaged the Los Angeles region. They apparently broke restriction. Did they face a long anchoring?  ,
LA police responded to the 3,500-square-foot home that Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhofff share in order to record a crime. In the end, they discovered no proof of a home violence. The people were, nevertheless, quickly taken into custody for violating Los Angeles County’s 6 p. m. to 6 a. m. law aimed in large part at stopping stealing. Why they were up and at the next child’s house at around 4: 40 a. m. remains vague. It’s unfamiliar whether Harris may contribute to a parole fund for thieves who profit from the Los Angeles-area wildfire patients.  ,
What we do know is that, as of Tuesday night, the upheavals had killed at least 25 people and devoured some 12, 000 buildings and more than 35, 000 hectares.  ,
It’s a sad commentary on society, especially leftist-led forests like Los Angeles. Authorities are being forced to act in response to a growing list of stealing and other property crimes as the place in and around the world’s second-largest city is facing a headache of fire.  ,
A Strong Strike on Our Community
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman earlier this month formally charged nine offenders with looting and one more with fire, which are officially unrelated to the fire. These bargain hunters are undoubtedly aware of where to buy. Not counting the two reported law breakers at Harris ‘ perfectly appointed four-bedroom, 4 1/2 shower Brentwood land, the accused looters picked some luxurious places to burgle, according to police — including LA’s mansion-packed Mandeville Canyon location. In one of the prosecutions, police apparently recovered an Emmy nomination.  ,
But as Julio Rosas, regional correspondent for Blaze Media, told me Tuesday on” The Vicki McKenna Show”, the plundering — like the fire — knows no socio-economic limit.  ,
” It’s not only stars. The removal orders have gone out to middle-class and even the lower-income districts”, Rosas, who has covered the Eaton Fire’s loss in spots like Altadena, Calif., where large swathes of the uninhabited Los Angeles neighborhood have been reduced to ashes.  ,
So the thieves have been out in total force like birds are. The crimes, according to Hochman, are “appalling” and “direct attacks on our group in a time of unprecedented reduction and vulnerability,” as most Americans would say. The innovative DA finally issued a harsh warning:
” We may find you and we will sue you to the fullest extent of the law,” Hochman said, “let me get obvious: If you exploit this horror to prey on victims of these fatal fires.”  ,
If his office actually pursues these maggots” to the fullest extent of the law,” it would represent a significant change from the soft-on-crime DA Los Angeles County voters had been used to. After four years of rising violent crime and disorder, voters decided to hold criminals accountable. Let’s see how committed this deep blue metropolitan area is to public safety now that it pleaded for unwavering” social justice” four years ago in the wake of the violent Black Lives Matter movement.  ,
‘ Pro-Criminal Extreme Policies ‘
At the polls in November, Hochman, a former federal prosecutor who unsuccessfully ran for governor of California as a Republican in 2022, bludgeoned leftist LA District Attorney George Gascón by 20 percentage points (60 % ). Funny how the most fundamentally necessary for law and order is changed by rampant crime and zero accountability.  ,
Voters also resoundingly rejected the “restorative justice” reforms of , Gascon, a George Soros-backed DA known as the “godfather of progressive prosecutors”. Gascon wrote the language for Proposition 47, the 2014 citizen-backed crime reform law that, among other things, gave thieves a pass by downgrading thefts under$ 950 from felonies to misdemeanors. More than 10.3 million California voters ( 68 % ) voted for Prop 36 in November, rolling back provisions in the bedlam-releasing Prop 47. Far-left Gov. Prop 36 was opposed by Gavin Newsom, so that almost certainly clarifies everything you need to know about the public safety measure.  ,
After the pandemic, property crime increased in California as a result of a report from CalMatters the day after the election, with the state, counties, and local governments struggling to contain and control homeless people’s encampments along the way.
No matter how committed they were to equity and the rest of that leftist nonsense, retailers understandably have grown tired of criminals constantly smashing up their stores and grabbing their goods.  ,
Upon losing, Gascon said” the rightward shift across America” on Election Day was “heartbreaking”. He was “deeply proud” of the” criminal justice reform” he pushed over his time in office.  ,
Hochman said he won because LA County voters had had quite enough of” D. A. Gascón’s pro-criminal extreme policies, they look forward to a safer future”.
” Culture of Lawlessness”
Hochman is making a good first impression by letting people know that the crimes they commit will lead to prosecution. However, the former federal prosecutor must be aware that some serious work will be required to clear up the mess that the leftist DA left behind. Just take a look at some of the violent repeat offenders Hochman’s office has accused in connection with the rash of looting. They have been robbing and looting properties in the evacuation zones while also being on probation or parole under the revolving door of what constitutes criminal justice in Democrat-led California.  ,
If that weren’t enough, as of Tuesday, police had arrested four people on arson-related charges for allegedly attempting to start new fires. According to the New York Post, an arson suspect was detained despite an unresolved felony warrant.  ,
” The four arrests come after a homeless man, a Mexican national] Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva] who entered the US illegally, was tackled by brave onlookers after they saw him using a” flamethrower” to start new fires in Woodland Hills”, the Post reported.  ,
According to sources, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “placed a detainer request on him three days ago, but the federal agency does not expect it to be honored due to California’s sanctuary state law.”  ,
Sure. Criminals are opportunists. One of the most destructive wildfires in California history presents plenty of opportunity for would-be looters, burglars, and curfew violators. But California criminals have long been emboldened in soft prosecution cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland. Making these cities safe again will require a long-term commitment, even though leftist leaders in these cities are beginning to pay a price for treating criminals like victims and victimizing law-abiding citizens.  ,
” It’s no surprise that the culture of lawlessness that was overseen and encouraged, in my opinion, by the previous]LA County ] district attorney, Gascon, obviously that’s still an issue today”, Rosas said. It only illustrates the uphill battle that the new DA will face in the years to come to end this ingrained culture of lawlessness.
