In his last year in business, U. S. President Joe Biden has named two aircraft ships being built after former presidents – the USS William J. Clinton and USS George W. Bush, the White House said in a , speech.
The two ships will be “in the years to come,” the statement read. ” When full, they will visit the most worthy, accommodating, and specialized Navy that has ever put to sea”.
The new companies are a part of a strategy to improve the US navy’s standing.
The U. S. Navy has 11 aircraft operators, all nuclear-powered, by far the largest ship in the world. Competitors China and Russia have three and one, both.
With about 290 ships then, the U. S. Navy wants to expand the entire ship to 381 in coming decades, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.
The Biden Administration has never specifically supported the 381-ship goal.
” When I personally delivered the news to Bill and George, they were greatly humiliated”, said Biden in the speech. ” Each knows first-hand the mass of the responsibilities that come with being commander-in-chief”.
Named after president
Most U. S. plane carriers are named after former president. Bill Clinton was the 42nd U. S. leader, serving two phrases from 1993 to 2001.
Clinton ordered a marine implementation to listen to the Third Taiwan crises in 1996, as well as airstrikes against Iraq in 1998 to deteriorate its ability to produce WMDs.
