Blue Origin, the storage company founded by Jeff Bezos, safely launched its huge New Glenn jet on its inaugural journey early Thursday from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Named after astronaut John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, the 320-foot (98-meter ) rocket aims to bolster Blue Origin’s role in the competitive space industry, currently dominated by SpaceX.

A design dish was carried by the New Glenn jet, which was set to orbit Earth for roughly six hours while it was still in its second phase.
The next stage was placed in a healthy orbit to reduce space debris, ending the mission in accordance with Nasa’s sustainability practices.
The missile’s first-stage boost attempted a controlled getting on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean, a crucial step toward reuse. Blue Origin anticipates six to eight New Glenn airlines this year, with the start of the flower vision being the first one.
The Complex 36, which was rebuilt at a cost of over$ 1 billion, was where the launch took place. When used for Nasa’s Mariner and Pioneer spaceship launches, the pad then symbolizes a gate between area exploration’s legendary past and its optimistic future.

New Glenn’s debut joins a wave of cutting-edge rockets, including SpaceX’s Starship, United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan, and Nasa’s Space Launch System ( SLS ). While SpaceX remains the leader in jet reuse and heavy-lift features, Bezos insists Blue Origin is not in opposition with Elon Musk’s business.
The New Glenn spacecraft is made to support a variety of operations, from launching satellites to carrying astronauts into space and the sun. Its primary celestial quest, using the Blue Moon rover, is planned for Nasa’s Artemis project’s next moon landing after this decade.
Although it was originally planned to launch Nasa’s Escapade spacecraft to Mars in 2023, New Glenn encountered difficulties, pushing the vision forward until spring 2025 at the earliest. The Martian surroundings and magnetosphere are the subjects of these mini aircraft.
