According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline on Thursday is$ 3.103. A gallon of regular gasoline is more costly than a year ago, when it was$ 3.072 in the Biden administration’s final time.

As President Joe Biden prepares to step down from company, unable to meet promises made in the earlier years of his presidency, in which he vowed the cost of fuel would become more affordable, the latest energy prices stage is a sign that gas prices are heading in the wrong direction. With only a few weeks until he leaves office, Biden is expected to leave the presidency with a significantly higher national average for regular oil than it was when he was in office in January 2021, at$ 2.334 per gallon.

Oil prices have been a hot issue for people in the country since Biden became president because it cost more than it did previously. Less than six months after his term began, the average price for a gallon of regular gas soared to more than$ 3 per gallon, and there has never been a drop below that level since. Oil prices peaked in June 2022, reaching$ 4.929 per gallon, the highest national average rate for a gallon of regular gasoline in the world’s story, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Pricing started falling the following month, but they fluctuated between 2022 and 2024 before reaching a year-high in April 2024. By the next quarter, the cost of a gallon of gas began to fall slowly. By mid-December, oil prices had dropped to an average of$ 3.01 per gallon, but they have since steadily increased.

Depending on the state, costs vary across the country while the average cost for regular gasoline is currently$ 3.103. Prices range from$ 2.66 to$ 4.544 per gallon. The average gas price in Mississippi is$ 2.66 per gallon, which is the lowest in the nation. However, Hawaii is the condition with the most expensive gas costs in the country, averaging$ 4.544 per gallon.

Fuel costs are also rising in and around Washington, D. C., with prices ranging on Thursday from slightly over$ 3 per gallon to over$ 3.20 per gallon. Virginia, a state with an average price under$ 3 per gallon as recently as yesterday, is now up to$ 3.019, according to AAA. This is the region’s lowest rate in Delmarva. Maryland’s average cost for a gallon of regular gas is$ 3.127, while Maryland’s average cost increased to$ 3.22 on Thursday. The nation’s capital has the most expensive gas prices in the area, with regular gas costing an average of$ 3.29 per gallon.
