Amid repeated promises from US president-elect Donald Trump about the future of Greenland, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told him that “only Greenland” may consider its prospect, as Politico reported.
The Danish PM reiterated the assertion made by Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede that” Greenland is not for sale,” according to a media release from Denmark’s PM company during a telephone call on Wednesday.

Frederiksen mentioned to Norwegian media that their talk” confirmed” the “great British involvement in Greenland”. However, the visit did not seem to resolve the issue, with both officials agreeing to keep an ongoing speech.
As previously reported by Politico, Trump had indicated his interest in purchasing the mineral-rich area and suggested that he would not allow military activity there. Trump did not directly address the question, but he did mention a 2019 poll on social media that showed that 68 % of Greenlanders supported Danish independence.
Frederiksen even “emphassed the importance of strengthening surveillance in the Arctic” during their 45-minute talk, and he also “reminded Trump of the strong business relationships between the US and Denmark, as nicely as between the US and the EU more broadly, as reported by Politico.
The officials also discussed relations with China and the ongoing problems in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Trump had earlier said he couldn’t use force to impose himself on Greenland. His comment came during a long news conference at his Mar-a-Lago home. When asked whether he could tell the world that the US would not rely on military or economic force to enslave Greenland or the Panama Canal, Trump responded,” I can’t tell you, you’re talking about Panama and Greenland… No, I can’t tell you on either of those two.” But I may state this– we need them for economical security”.
According to the Swedish government site, Greenland is the country’s largest area that is not a continent. It has around 56, 000 citizens, most of whom live in the 20 % of the land not covered by ice and snow. Greenland is a part of the Realm of Denmark as well as having its own broad local authorities.
