Following the release of a list of 95 prisoners who had been freed as part of the primary exchange for Jewish prisoners under the fresh Gaza ceasefire agreement, Israel’s justice ministry announced that it would begin releasing Palestinian prisoners starting on Sunday.
The release is subject to government’s approval of the ceasefire plan and will not take place before 16: 00 local time ( 14: 00 GMT ) on Sunday, the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The peace and prisoner release agreement, which would be a significant step in ending one of the deadliest conflicts in Gaza’s story, was approved by Israel’s security case on Friday.
The package, negotiated by Qatar, the United States, and Egypt, may block the continued murder, which has led to major casualties on both sides.
The peace deal also includes measures for the transfer of Hamas victims since their assault on Israel on October 7, 2023. In the upcoming weeks, hundreds of Arab prisoners from Jewish prisons are anticipated to be freed as part of the wider agreement.
Despite the peace agreement, Israeli attacks have continued, with Israel’s military monitoring that it targeted around 50 spots in Gaza in a 24-hour time on Thursday.
Later on Friday, the entire Israeli government will organize to give the deal’s final approval. If confirmed, the ceasefire will resonate with the day of Donald Trump‘s opening as the next US leader.
