On Saturday evening, Karina Gould, the Government House Leader, announced her candidacy for the Democratic leadership contest, becoming the youngest member to challenge Justin Trudeau for the placement of Canadian Prime Minister.
In a social media videos, Gould said,” We need new authority to fight for common Indians. a president who is aware of what people are going through and runs day and night to improve their lives. She added,” I’m here for Canada. Now, tomorrow, and for years to come”.
Gould’s announcement comes after Mark Carney, the former chancellor of the Bank of Canada and the former governor of the Bank of England, and Chrystia Freeland, the former head of Canada’s finance ministry, announced their candidacies earlier this year.
Second elected in 2015, the Burlington, Ontario, MP has been a part of Trudeau’s government since 2017, holding jobs as secretary of democratic institutions, global growth, and people, children and social development. Most recently, she played a key role in implementing the federal government’s$ 10-a-day child care policy.
At 37, Gould acknowledged People ‘ dissatisfaction with the Liberal Party, saying that they “have lost faith” and encouraging to resurrect both respect and the organization. She is the only case member in the current one to consider a leadership bid, while several others have chosen not to.
Another contenders include MPs Chandra Arya, Frank Baylis, and Jaime Battiste.
In a battle videos, Freeland stressed American identity and took aim at US President-elect Donald Trump, who has recently expressed interest in “absorbing” Canada. ” Trump thinks we’re for sale, but he didn’t take what isn’t his. We’re not going to enable him”, Freeland asserted.
Gould even addressed worries about events” north of the border”, stating that Indians are” strong, hardworking, and caring individuals who do not back down from fighting for what is appropriate”.
