According to AAA, the average rate for a gallon of regular gasoline increased once more on Thursday to$ 3.045. Prices have increased daily this week, reaching an all-time high of$ 3.024, which is now over$ 2.02 more than the previous high of$ 3.024. Despite recent rises, fuel prices have been trending downward in recent months.

Current prices are the lowest in the country since May 2021, when the average price was$ 2.985 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. In June 2021, the cost of gas started increasing significantly, eventually reaching record-high averages of over$ 4 per gallon. Prices steadily decreased after reaching the country’s highest national average rate in 2022. Gas prices increased once more in 2023 and reached their highest point in April 2024 before rapidly lowering in May.

During the majority of President Joe Biden’s term in office, fuel prices have been a contentious social issue. Biden assured the country that gas prices would drop after reaching report federal rates. Years after, near the end of his term, that promise has suddenly come to fruition. However, despite this year’s significant increases in fuel prices, fuel costs remain higher now than when President-elect Donald Trump was in office between January 2017 and January 2021.

Meanwhile, gas prices continue to fluctuate throughout the country, with average prices in some states near$ 2.50 per gallon and over$ 4.50 in others. Hawaii has the highest average rate for a gallon of gasoline, at$ 4.549. Oklahoma has the cheapest gas prices in the country, at$ 2.583 per gallon.

    Delaware

On Thursday, Delaware’s average gas price dropped nearly 2 percent in 24 hours to$ 2.771. Rates have been on the decline for the last two days, and Thursday’s cost was over 7 percent cheaper than last year’s, when a litre of regular gasoline was$ 2.848. Both gas prices are considerably lower than they were a month before, when regular gas cost$ 3.12 per gallon.

    Maryland

Maryland has even experienced a decrease in oil prices, similar to the First State. On Thursday, the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline was$ 2.916. This was a modest decrease from a week prior, when normal fuel price$ 2.971. Gasoline prices are almost 30 percent cheaper than a fortnight ago, when regular gasoline was$ 3.203 per gallon.

    Virginia

Oil prices also fell significantly in Virginia on Thursday, dropping to$ 2.883 per gallon. This rate decreased marginally from the previous week’s$ 2.912. Gas prices have likewise fallen in Virginia over the last quarter, and Thursday’s value is less expensive than a fortnight ago, when normal gas was$ 2.997 per gallon.
