Millions of users are hoping for a reverse as the TikTok closure occurs across the US. Some have pinned their hopes on soon-to-be president Donald Trump.
Trump has backed TikTok and just stated that he might work with TikTok to reach a deal that would stop the famous video-sharing application from being banned in the nation.
In an interview with NBC, Trump claimed in his last speech that he had not yet made a final determination but was considering giving TikTok a rest after his inauguration on Monday. He said,” I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at. The 90-day improvement is something that will become most likely done, because it’s ideal. You know, it’s ideal. We have to look at it properly. It’s a pretty big condition”.
Yet the TikTok CEO expressed desire that Trump may come up with a way to avoid the ban. He had written a text to thank him for considering an alternative. Trump mentioned him in a message to users that read” We are lucky that President Trump has indicated that he will function with us on a solution to restore TikTok once he takes business.” Please be tuned”!
But, Trump wasn’t always the’ messiah’ of the system as he’s being perceived by some today. When Trump was President for the first time, he also promoted TikTok restrictions, in 2020, over related issues as Joe Biden- protecting Americans ‘ information from China.
The shift in Trump’s approach on TikTok
His dissatisfaction with China’s coronavirus epidemic response dominated his antagonism to TikTok in 2020. He claimed to Bloomberg News in July 2020 that “what happened with China with this disease, what they’ve done to this region and the entire world is disgraceful.”
Soon afterwards, aboard Air Force One, he announced,” As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States”.
On August 6, 2020, he issued an executive order requiring ByteDance to offer its US businesses. Concerns about data collection posing a chance for Taiwanese authorities to gain access to American data for espionage and surveillance were raised in the purchase.
Eventually, he supported a collaboration involving Oracle and Walmart acquiring large TikTok rights. However, this agreement, which left ByteDance’s role vague, was abandoned during the political change. His sought restrictions was overruled by a federal judge, which upheld the president’s authority.
Therefore, by March 2024, Trump’s place shifted considerably. Despite having previously attempted similar things, he objected to legislative efforts to force TikTok’s Taiwanese owner to sell. Some claimed that the platform’s recognition was attributable to his own level of popularity.

Following the passage of legislation by Congress last year and President Joe Biden’s name, TikTok became law. TikTok’s Foreign parent organization Bytedance faced a mission to offer its US activities to an approved customer within a nine-month period, which it refused.
So, the law now forbids app marketplaces and net hosting services from providing TikTok to users in America. A sitting senator, however, maintains the power to extend the deadline if a sale is being made.
