Clark County’s efforts to address contaminated water at , Camp Bonneville , are getting a boost from the , U. S. Army.
The county government approved a contract act on Tuesday to allow the Army to contribute$ 6 million to page cleanup. Additionally, the article extends the state’s deal with the Army to 2054.
Councilor , Matt Little, one of two new commissioners sworn in prior to the start of Tuesday’s meet, suggested moving the conversation out two days to provide more time to review the contract shifts and offer suggestions.
” It’s wonderful that we’re going to own some money for tracking and restoration. The major question mark I had here is that it changes … the ending date, which would have been , July 2026 , to , September 2054. That’s about 30 ages”, Little said during the meeting.
Established in 1909,  , Camp Bonneville , was created for defense education. Fort Vancouver troops used the area as a chisel area and rifle range. A shooting variety used by law enforcement agencies, including the , Clark County Sheriff’s Office , and , FBI, is still in operation on the home.
The defense stopped using the almost 4, 000-acre page in 1995. In 2006, the , U. S. Army , transferred ownership of the property to the state.
Using millions of dollars in grant money from the Army, the state took efforts to clean the house of unexploded ordinance, violent compounds, munitions and direct, as well as clean up soil and groundwater contaminants.
In an October display to the state government,  , Kevin Tyler, director for the state’s gardens and lands department, said four of the five pollution areas, called Remedial Action Units or RAUs, have been cleared.
Tyler claimed that as the recovery process progresses, there would be additional opportunities for common involvement.
The corrective research and feasibility research are being developed. What choices could be used to remove the remaining leakage from Camp Bonneville, according to the study. When that viability study is done, there will be a recovery activity plan”, Tyler said, adding the state , Department of Ecology , would handle the recovery process and network public conferences to seek feedback.
According to Tyler, the article, which is the 17th since the state signed the original agreement in 2006, even alters some of the technical requirements for landfill cleanup. 4, destruction place No. 1, as well as water substances.
Much later, the committee unanimously approved the deal amendment and withdrew his motion to postpone the vote.
