Pastor Lorenzo Sewell is the top pastor of 180 Church in Detroit, Michigan. Born and raised on Detroit’s west side, he faced numerous challenges in his children, including his father’s prison and the dreadful loss of his younger sibling. These early difficulties led him into a life of crime, finally becoming a crew chief. But, in 1999, during his senior year of high school, Sewell experienced a serious spiritual change that shifted his course toward Christianity and pastoral leadership.
On January 20, 2025, Pastor Sewell delivered one of the prayers at President Donald J. Trump’s opening. This time held private and historical value, coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. Time. Sewell reflected on the situation as a realization of King’s desire, connecting themes of unification, fairness, and hope. During his prayer, he quoted heavily from Dr. King’s” I Have a Dream” speech, emphasizing the continuous pursuit of racial fairness and cooperation.
Pastor Sewell’s relationship with President Trump began in 2024 when he hosted the then-presidential member at 180 Church for a promotion function and roundtable discussion. Sewell’s profound and casual prayer during the celebration left a lasting effect on Trump, leading to his invitation to participate in the opening. This marked the beginning of a closer partnership, with Sewell becoming a noticeable figure in Trump’s plan. He traveled heavily across the United States, offering starting prayers at activities, participating in Republican meetings, and speaking at the Republican National Convention in July 2024.
Throughout his government and public career, Pastor Sewell has emphasized the crossing of devotion and politicians, usually highlighting the Bible’s importance to social and political issues. He is seriously committed to serving his area and using his system to encourage trust, change, and faith-based management. His individual journey from suffering to command serves as a strong example of forgiveness and endurance, inspiring some in Detroit and beyond.
