( The Center Square ) – State Rep. Joe John, Democrat from Wake County, has penned a letter of resignation to the North Carolina House of Representatives.
“After a valiant and lengthy battle with cancer, ” John writes in the Sunday text, “ I have been informed by my specialists that all treatment options have been exhausted, and I now face a terminal diagnosis. ”
John, 85, won his second word in November. The longtime government established said he made the decision “with the purpose of focusing on my heath and paying cherished time with my family during this difficult period. ”
A prosecutor by deal, John before coming to the Legislature earlier was a prosecutor in Superior Court and District Court; position Court of Appeals righteousness; and directed the murder test of the State Bureau of Investigation.
He was first elected to a chair on Jones Street in 2016.

Rep. Robert Reives, the Democrat leader of the House, in a statement thanked him for public services and said, “Our conference and our state are fortunate to have him. ”
John has represented a northern part of the state in District 40. The county’s Democrat Party will choose his successor.
