NEW DELHI: The Trump administration on Wednesday cancelled vacation ideas for thousands of refugees who had already been approved to absorb in the United States.
This choice stems from President Donald Trump’s executive order suspending immigrant enrollment, showcasing the quick and far-reaching effect of the plan. About 10,000 refugees, who had already completed a long and arduous screening method, now face doubt after their appointed flights were cancelled.
“All originally scheduled journey of migrants to the United States is being cancelled, and no fresh travel tickets will be made. RSCs should certainly ask go for any additional immigrant cases at this time, ” stated a State Department note, as cited by CNN.
The shift has created major challenges for those whose medical examinations or security clearances are nearing expire, possible forcing them to resume the complete process, CNN reported.
The letter also outlined a suspension of all event running and pre-departure activities, properly halting the US migrant relocation program. “Additionally, all immigrant event control and pre-departure routines are also suspended. RSCs and IOM does not move migrants to transport hubs in anticipation of travel and should end all pre-departure activities for migrant cases. No new referrals should be made into the USRAP, ” it added.
However, exceptions have been made for Special Immigrant Visa ( SIV ) holders, such as those who worked for the US abroad, allowing them to travel. Migrants now within the United States may also continue to receive support service.
A subsequent message reviewed by The Associated Press more confirmed that “refugee entrance to the United States has been suspended until more notice. ” This assertion has dashed hopes for migrants who had completed the acceptance process and booked planes prior to the professional order’s police date.
Among those mainly impacted are over 1,600 Afghans who were cleared for resettlement under a programme initiated after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. This group includes people who worked alongside American forces during the war, as well as community members of active-duty US military officers.
First, Trump’s get had set January 27 as the deadline to end control and go, but the schedule appears to have been accelerated. The reason behind this abrupt shift remains unclear.
It is important to notice that immigrants differ from asylum applicants who arrive straight at the US-Mexico border to get protection. Immigrants may be living outside the United States to qualify for settlement and are commonly referred to the State Department by the United Nations.
Immigrants undergo thorough testing procedures before being granted admittance into the US. When they arrive, they are matched with resettlement organizations that help them in adapting to life in the country, including finding jobs and enrolling their children in school.
The expulsion has sparked widespread condemnation from human rights groups and migrant activists, highlighting the humanitarian burden of the Trump administration ’s plan changes.
