As the match held their first discussions since Donald Trump’s election, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi told US secretary of state Marco Rubio on Friday that Washington should “prudently” view the Taiwan problem.
According to a display of their telephone conversation provided by his department,” We will not allow Taiwan to be separated from China,” Wang said, adding that Washington “must never betray its guarantee” to follow the one-China plan.
While Beijing had” no intent of surpassing or replacing anyone”, it maintained its “legitimate straight to growth”, he said.
Taiwan is regarded as a part of China’s place, and the country has threatened to use force to take it under its power.
The United States has long supported Taiwan and is its principal weapon supplier, but it does not publicly acknowledge it socially.
The Wang-Rubio deals have not yet received any comments from the State Department.
However, Rubio claimed that a “dangerous” China had cheated its approach to power position and promised to increase aid to stop any conquest of Taiwan in his Senate confirmation hearing last month.
In their contact, Wang told Rubio that the world’s leading two economies does work to find” the right way to get along in the fresh era”– probably referring to Trump’s return to the US presidency.
The Foreign minister recommended that the pair follow Xi Jinping and Trump’s example and set the tone for relations at a “new significant juncture,” according to the ministry.
Both sides should “maintain conversation, control differences, increase cooperation, and promote the robust, healthy and sustainable development of China-US relations, finding the right way for China and the United States to get along in the fresh era”, the readout quoted Wang as saying.
