On Tuesday, President Trump announced that OpenAI, Oracle, and Softbank will work together to fund a project that will fund artificial intelligence in the United States, totaling more than$ 100 billion.
” It will ensure the future of technology”, Trump said at a news conference at the White House, where he was joined by professionals from the high-profile companies. We want to keep it in this region, which is what we want to do. China is a company and others are competition”.
The trio of tech giants is expected to commit an initial$ 100 billion to the initiative, dubbed the Stargate project, and plan to invest a total of$ 500 billion in AI infrastructure over the next four years,  , OpenAI , said in a blog post. Trump proclaimed the initiative will quickly lead to more than 100, 000 jobs in America and described it as a “resounding declaration of trust in America’s possible under a new leader.”
The program emphasizes the potential for software jobs to boost the U.S. market as global companies compete to create new AI products. The demand for data centers, which are facilities that store technology equipment like servers that process the vast amount of data needed to train and retain AI systems, is growing worldwide.
However, questions linger about how Stargate did pan out. Billionaire Elon Musk, who has emerged in recent months as one of Trump’s near experts and is heading the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency, formally challenged the program.
” They don’t actually own the money”, Musk posted Tuesday on his social media platform X, originally Online. ” SoftBank has also under$ 10B secured. I have that on fine authority”.
On Wednesday, OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman fired up on X. ” Wrong, as you surely know” , , he wrote. ” Want to come visit the first page that is already being built? this is great for the region. i realize what is great for the country isn’t always what’s optimal for your companies, but in your new role i hope you’ll mostly put]America ] first”.
Musk, who runs an artificial intelligence firm, xAI, but was also an early investor in OpenAI, is embroiled in a legal battle with OpenAI and has accused the San Francisco-based , business  , of putting profits over the “benefit of humanity”.
While AI is being put to use to solve a seemingly endless variety of challenges including , fighting wildfires , and diagnosing diseases, concerns remain about the affect the systems will have on jobs, people’s security and additional issues. Trump has dismissed these concerns, reversing former president Biden’s 2023 executive order that placed safety nets around AI.
Along with SoftBank, OpenAI and Oracle, a technology fund in the United Arab Emirates named MGX will provide money for Stargate, according to OpenAI’s website article. Masayoshi Son, the chief executive of SoftBank, will be the president of Stargate. Tech companions include Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA,
Oracle’s Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellison stated at the press conference that the first Stargate information facilities are being built in Texas. Although it’s not clear whether any additional data centers will be constructed in California as part of this effort, Stargate is looking into possible locations across the country, according to an OpenAI blog post.
” I’m thrilled we get to do this in the United States of America”, Altman said at the news conference. This task may be” the most significant job of this era,” I believe.
