A House Republican from a city that spans roughly half of the entire U.S. border said President Donald Trump‘s massive imprisonment activity and border assault are getting off to a good start with bigger plans on the horizon.
” I expect very quickly this will be streamlined, and instead of 80 a day, or a few hundred, it’ll pick up very quickly. There’ll be hundreds a day”, Gonzales said in a phone call from El Paso, where he has spoken with senior military, homeland security, Mexican partners, and local elected officials late this week.
“You’re going to talk hundreds, and then you’re going to talk thousands”, Gonzales said. People who are being detained from detention centers or other locations will be taken from locations along the Mexican border and released, as has transpired. It’ll continue to happen and will probably do so on a larger scale on the Mexican side, if you will. Then, there will be more and more flights returning to various different nations.
The White House announced Friday morning that the Defense Department had begun to repatriate illegal immigrants, using military cargo aircraft as the , Trump administration  , steps up its crackdown at the southern border.
According to a , a Department of Homeland Security official authorized to speak with the media, the first such military flight leaving El Paso took place on Thursday evening, departing from Biggs Army Airfield and heading for Guatemala with approximately 80 Guatemalan nationals on board.
According to the official, the flight was a flight of immigrants who had been detained at the southern border and not within the United States. Gonzales said that depending on their country of origin, both groups will soon be flying out of the country.
” All this is developing”, Gonzales said. ” But my initial impression is that things are going very, very smoothly at a very early time period in this, which is good,” I said after speaking with all these various actors involved in it.
Gonzales added that in recent conversations with him, both local residents and federal law enforcement had spoken favorably of the operation.

The Border Patrol agents, the military, and other federal agencies all seem to be excited to help write the new chapter because it has already turned a page, he said. ” And honestly, just getting back to being able to enforce the law. It’s as basic as that sounds. That has been a huge boost, especially for Border Patrol agents who are just able to do their jobs once more.
