After lots of evacuees arrived in the country wearing handcuffs on Saturday, Brazil harshly condemned the US.
A plane carrying 88 Brazilian people, 16 US protection agents, and eight staff members, was actually scheduled to arrive in Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais, but had to make an emergency landing in the city of Manaus due to a complex problem, said a declaration by the Brazilian state.
Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski’s orders were met by Portuguese federal police, who intervened and demanded that the emigrants be free of cuffs.
According to a statement from the Portuguese Ministry of Justice and Public Security, Lewandowski told left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that this was a “blatant disregard” of their basic rights.
According to the justice ministry,” Prime Minister Lula ordered that a Brazilian Air Force ( FAB) aircraft be mobilized to transport the Brazilians to their final destination so that they could finish their journey with dignity and safety,”
Anti-immigration mood in the US
Since taking office this year, US President Donald Trump has taken a terrible anti-immigration position and has pledged to eliminate illegal immigrants.
A government source told AFP media firm that the imprisonment trip was a result of a 2017 bilateral contract and that it was not related to any of Trump’s immigration directions since taking office.
This was the second journey this year to return illegal immigrants from the US to Brazil.
Since Trump took office on Monday, imprisonment airlines have been popular, even under previous presidents.
In Brazil, the use of restraints on workers is viewed as contentious. Even previous traditional Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a Trump admirer, has called for an end to the practice.
