FRANKFURT: The largest union in Germany, IG Metall, made a proposal on Monday that unusual businesses that sell products in the European Union be required to include components made there.
” All commercial goods marketed in Europe should be forced to include some German components”, said Juergen Kerner, assistant head of the trade union, the biggest in Europe.
” We need to force Chinese or American carmakers to arrange their products in Europe with Western pieces if they want to sell their cars to Europe.”
German trade power is struggling to cope with furious Chinese competition, expensive energy, and potential tariff increases from US President Donald Trump that would harm international trade.
The biggest market in the EU has experienced a two-year decline.
Moderation would have to be a top priority in order to prevent escalating tensions with buying partners by imposing a native content approach.
” We don’t like 100 percent native in Europe”, he said. ” That would be totally wrong. We live off imports. However, “zero percentage is extremely incorrect.”
IG Metall mind Christiane Benner implored voters to concentrate on the market as Germany prepares for a February 23 vote and an immigration controversy that is once more dominating the plan.
” There is no time to lose”, she said. The business will need to be changed for the upcoming European government.
She added that “extremist troops who are not interested in the future, no interested in improving people’s lives” were what citizens should stay away from.
“IG Metall has 500, 000 individuals who are refugees or the kids of workers. And they’re not the only people who are concerned about political improvements in this nation.
