Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, said on Sunday that the removal of Tuskegee Airmen videos and curriculum from its military training syllabus “has been instantly reversed.”
Hegesth posted the comment in response to issues from , U. S.  , Sen.  , Katie Britt , about “malicious adherence we’ve seen in recent days”.
” We’re all over it Senator. This will not stand”, Hegseth posted in response to Britt’s social media comments. ” This will not have”.
” Secretary Hegseth did undoubtedly right and uncover the source of the dishonest behavior we’ve seen in recent days.  , President Trump , celebrated and honored the Tuskegee Airmen”, Britt posted.
” These role models may continue to inspire the next generation of valiant, noble National servicemembers”, Britt posted.
U. S. Air Force , reportedly reversed course Sunday on its decision to remove the videos following President Donald Trump ‘s , executive orders banning diversity, equity and inclusion ( DEI ) across the federal government.
The videos “would be restored to the basic training curriculum for new recruits beginning Monday” , , the , San Antonio Express-News , reported.
” The documented historical reputation and decorated courage with which these products and Airmen fought for our country in World War II and beyond will remain on 27 January”, Lt. Gen.  , Brian S. Robinson, mind of the , San Antonio-based Air Education and Training Command, said in a statement.
Their individual examples of support, sacrifice, and combat effectiveness serve as examples of the fundamental values, character, and hero ethos required to be an Airman and Guardian, Robinson continued. Because of the revision,” No Airmen or Guardians will lose this block of training.”
The treatment was  , initially reported by the , Express-News.
All of the roughly 1, 000 Black military aircraft who trained in the , U. S.  , during World War II did so in Tuskegee, a town of about 8, 700 people now that is 87 % Black.
” Some windows are inside your mind. Some are inside the minds of others” , , the narrator of one of the removed videos, entitled” Breaking Barriers”, says. ” Intolerance. Knowledge. Oppression”.
The choice sparked outrage from leaders.
U. S.  , Rep.  , Shomari Figures, D-Mobile, called the removal of the picture as “pathetic, terrible and disrespectful”.
” To remove them from the , Air Force , education is an absurd treachery of our beliefs as Americans. Their bravery is no’ DEI. ‘ It is National story. I’m calling on the , Air Force , to instantly change this choice”, said , U. S.  , Rep.  , Terri Sewell, D-Birmingham.
The Tuskegee Airmen account wasn’t the only film to get removed by the , Air Force. A picture about the girls Air Force Service Pilots, or WASPs, who were crucial in ferrying warplanes for the military, was even taken down. Both films could be restored as , rapidly as Monday, according to an standard.
