The” Born-Alive Pregnancy Victims Protection Act,” which would ensure protections for children born alive after an unsuccessful pregnancy process, was blocked by Democrats in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.
The Senate proceeded with a movement to move the” Born-Alive Pregnancy Victims Protection Act,” which requires a two-thirds bulk of the Senate for assent. In a 52-47 voting, the Senate failed to invoke cloture. If passed, the bill had “prohibit a health care professional from exercising the right degree of care in the case of a baby who survives an abortion or attempts to abort.”
Additionally, the costs would mandate that health care providers “exercise the same level of professional expertise, care, and devotion to protect the child’s life and health as any other child born alive at the same prenatal age.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S. D. ) addressed the expected opposition to the vote on Wednesday, saying,” We should all be able to agree that a baby born alive after an attempted abortion must be protected, and I fully anticipate that my Democrat colleagues will vote no on this legislation later today.”
Thune continued,” They did vote against shelter for a living, breathing newborn child simply because that child was born alive after an attempted pregnancy.”
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala. ) argued that supporting the pro-life legislation “isn’t complicated” and that “babies who survive a failed abortion deserve medical care”. The Republican senator criticized Liberals for stifling the legislation, saying it was” really incredible that protecting these valuable life is a political matter.”

Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla. ), who led the push for the reintroduction of the pro-life bill, also released a statement, expressing his disappointment that Democrats blocked the legislation from proceeding. Lankford described the protection proposed under the bill as something” commonsense” that was made” completely partisan” by Democrat senators.
The Oklahoma senator continued,” This bill is straightforward and would save lives.” Every life is valuable, and no one is ever going to be without it, I believe.
On the other hand, Democrats argued that the legislation proposed by Republicans was “unnecessary”.
Republicans are currently pushing an unnecessary messaging bill. Any child born in America, regardless of circumstance, is already protected under the law, the Senate Judiciary Democrats wrote in a post on X. ” The so-called’ Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act’ would only harm doctors and women”.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N. ) claims to be. Y. ) characterized the legislation as “pernicious as they come”
” It attacks women’s health care using false narratives and outright fearmongering, and it adds more legal risk for doctors on something that’s already illegal”, Schumer said.
