Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaumannounced on Sunday that she had directed her economy minister to introduce tariff and non-tariff measures in response to new US tariffs on Mexican goods.
This comes after US President Donald Trump ratified a taxes get imposing levies on imports from China, Mexico, and Canada. Worries about inflation and business outages in North America have been raised by the decision.

Both Mexico and Canada have indicated they will react with measures.
Sheinbaum stated in a blog on X that Mexico wants to work with the US government without infringing on it. Mexico senator also called Trump’s claim of gang empire ‘ defamation’.
” We absolutely reject the White House’s defamation that the Mexican authorities has relationships with legal institutions, as well as any intention of meddling in our territory”, Sheinbaum wrote.
She even addressed fentanyl trafficking, a key concern in US-Mexico relationships.
She said,” If the United States government and its agencies wanted to address the serious fentanyl use in their state, they could stop the sale of drugs on the streets of their major cities, which they don’t, and stop the trafficking of funds this illegal action has done to the country, which has caused so much damage to its populace.”
Sheinbaum highlighted her administration’s efforts since she took company in October, including the arrest of 20 million doses of morphine and the confinement of over 10, 000 people linked to drug smuggling.
The taxes have created confusion in business relationships between the US, Mexico, and Canada, the three largest economy in North America.
