After Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to strengthen his border policies, President Donald Trump has delayed 25 % tariffs on Canada for at least one month.
” Canada is implementing our$ 1.3 billion border program— reinforcing the frontier with new helicopters, systems and personnel, improved cooperation with our British partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl”, Trudeau wrote on social media Monday.  ,” Almost 10, 000 frontline workers are and will be working on protecting the boundary”.
The White House gave its approval of the agreement.
The Mexican president’s pledge to postpone tariffs for 30 days was shared earlier on Monday by the implementation of 10,000 troops to the frontier.
” In addition, Canada is making new pledges to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list organizations as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eye on the frontier, build a Canada-U. S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering”, Trudeau added. ” We will be supporting it with$ 200 million,” reads the statement from me as well as a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl.
After he signed three executive orders last weekend, Trump’s 25 % tariffs on Canada and Mexico were scheduled to be imposed early on Tuesday morning. Canadian energy would have been charged at a lower rate of 10 %, but that is now set to be done.
Trudeau told reporters last weekend that if Trump’s tariffs on Canada go into effect, his country would respond in kind with its own 25 % duties on$ 155 billion worth of imported U. S. products.

Trump has simultaneously threatened 10 % tariffs on China, which were poised to be imposed Tuesday.
” We’ll have some good meetings with China”, Trump told reporters on Monday in the Oval Office. ” We have meetings planned, and, we’ll see what happens. But that was only an introduction. If we can’t make a deal with China, then the tariffs will be very, very substantial”.
