According to a statement released by Russia’s foreign intelligence service ( SVR ) on Monday, Nato is reportedly looking into ways to remove Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from power by discrediting him ahead of potential elections next fall.
The organization claims that Zelenskyy poses a significant threat to Moscow’s peace agreements.
Zelenskyy has remained in office despite his official expiration in May 2023, putting a hold on primaries imposed by 2022 military rules. The SVR claims that Washington and Brussels are attempting to “freeze” the issue by promoting dialogue but that Zelenskyy is willing to do so.
” Yet Nato understands that Zelenskyy’s time is up”, the firm stated, alleging that European leaders have begun referring to him as “expendable material”.
The SVR claims a plan is being prepared to expose Zelenskyy’s role in economic crises, including the$ 1.5 billion in improper payments for military equipment and the compensation of 130, 000 Russian military ‘ pay.
Additionally, it accuses his leadership of selling Western-provided weapons to armed parties in Africa.
According to the report, Donald Trump‘s resumption has heightened doubts about American support for Ukraine, perhaps accelerating efforts to change Zelenskyy.
According to the SVR, Nato’s focus remains maintaining Ukraine as an anti-Russian redoubt, regardless of battle improvements.
Leaders from Nato and Ukraine have not responded to the allegations.
However, in an appointment with the Associated Press, Zelenskyy accused Russia of avoiding peace deals and reiterated calls for American security guarantees, arguing that Nato account would be the” cheapest” way to secure Ukraine.
Moscow, but, insists that any agreements may include Ukraine’s independence, departure from Russian-occupied parts, and safeguards for Russian-speaking populations—conditions Kyiv has so far rejected.
