In its quarterly global semiconductor vendor statistics report, Gartner reported on February 3 that Samsung reclaimed the top spot in the scoreboard of semiconductor companies by revenue. Global semiconductor revenue hit$ 626 billion, up 18.1 % from 2023.
” The rising demand for AI and generative AI ( GenAI ) workloads led data centers to become the second-largest market for semiconductors in 2024, behind smartphones”, said George Brocklehurst, vice president analyst at Gartner, in a press release.
Samsung takes the top of the silicon ranking
Samsung Electronics sat at the top of Gartner’s silicon ranking with$ 66.5 billion in revenue, rounded. The best five silicon manufacturers were:
- Samsung ($ 66.5 billion in revenue ).
- Intel ($ 49.2 billion in revenue ).
- NVIDIA ($ 46 billion in revenue ).
- SK hynix ($ 42.8 billion in revenue ).
- Qualcomm ($ 32.4 billion in revenue ).
Samsung surpassed Intel in the price of memory devices thanks to a rise in prices. Due to its success in the AI industry, NVIDIA moved up two places to number five. Despite Intel’s Iot PC company and the Core Ultra snapdragon, the company’s silicon revenue growth stayed straight at 0.1 % rise in 2024, Gartner said Intel’s AI pedal and x86 company offset its achievement. Gartner cited NVIDIA’s potent AI firm as the driving force behind its ascendancy.

Data facilities, CPUs, and AI chips drive the boost
In the press release, Brocklehurst stated that” the key drivers for the chip sector in 2024 were the graphics processing units ( GPUs ) and AI processors used in data center applications ( servers and accelerator cards ).
Data center semiconductor revenue alone was$ 112 billion in 2024, up from$ 64.8 billion in 2023.
Storage is also popular, with 71.8 % income growth among remembrance products in 2024. High-bandwidth memory ( HBM ) production had a large impact, responsible for a significant portion of revenue for DRAM vendors, DRAM revenue overall grew by 75.4 % in 2024.
Nonmemory revenue, which accounts for most ( 74.8 % ) semiconductor revenue, grew 6.9 % in 2024.
Semiconductor sales are anticipated for 2025.
According to Gartner, the silicon industry will continue to grow in profits as of February 2024, with forecasts for$ 705 billion in 2025.
” Memory and AI electronics will drive near-term growth”, Brocklehurst said. Especially, HBM revenue will increase and make up a larger share of the entire Memory income.
