WASHINGTON — Gov. Greg Abbott and President Donald Trump will meet at the White House on Wednesday to talk about borders protection, according to the governor’s office and the White House.
Abbott has come to be one of the government’s biggest supporters for establishing a southern border wall. Under Operation Lone Star, he militarized the frontier and thwarted illegal border crossings, and he has since requested compensation from Texas from the federal government. Texas spent more than$ 11 billion on Operation Lone Star, which includes a portion of the southern border than any other state.
In a letter to congressional leaders last month, Abbott wrote that” the stress that our State has borne is directly a result of the federal government’s refusal to do its job.” The work Texas has done through Operation Lone Star has protected and will continue to benefit the whole nation.
Andrew Mahaleris, Abbott’s press secretary, stated in a statement that the government intended to talk about “our continued agreement in securing the southeastern borders and keeping Americans healthy” with Trump. The Oval Office does hold a personal meeting.
During his opening, Trump gave Abbott a special cry out for Texas ‘ border work. Trump immediately addressed Abbott, who was present for an casual Inauguration Day target, at length from the podium. Trump called Abbott a “leader of the pack” and said he was” a very popular governor and now he’s an unstoppable government” because of his border policies.
Trump pledged in his discourse to support Abbott’s efforts to build more walls along the boundary and to send the military to assist with border police. He has since declared a frontier incident and pledged to use military force for border police. Abbott also gave the Texas National Guard border-related imprisonment authorization.
