If you really want to get the left-wing internet fired up, destination the left-wing advertising. Liberals are enraged by DOGE’s work to get rid of government waste and leftist efforts in general, but some are actually stoked by the suggestion that the government might defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting ( CPB), which provides funding for PBS and NPR.

Hear CNN’s Brian Stelter. Sensible people have clown-slapped Stelter so much that he must not have any feeling left, to use a word from my friend and colleague Kevin Downey Jr. On Tuesday, he took to X to make a openly stupid speech.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which disburses resources to PBS and NPR facilities, gets$ 535 million a year in federal money. Therefore, any government official who genuinely wanted to save billions of dollars would look elsewhere, such as the$ 874 billion spent on national defense.
— Brian Stelter ( @brianstelter ) February 4, 2025
I’m not certain what Stelter thinks this may achieve. What happens if we have to defend our country as a whole? Do we keep a commitment drive? Do we depend on Elmo and Big Bird for protection? ( Give me Super Grover over those two, but I still don’t believe he can withstand the threats from China or Iran. )
Does Stelter believe that NPR’s reporters does slam our adversaries to death? Or does he think that the Civil War military from Ken Burns ‘ video will magically appear to fight? Stelter’s asininity staggers the creativeness— but he kept going!
For some reason, he wasted two X posts on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga. ).
” So it’s more revealing that the ‘ first goal’ of the House DOGE Subcommittee is … NPR and PBS”, Stelter wrote. ” By asking the eyes of the retailers to speak, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene won’t be finding huge cost saving, but she’ll be scoring low social points”.

While some Greene’s electorate want her to attack the media at a hearing, he continued,” Democratic lawmakers ignored him every year during his second term, and he proposed slashing open media funding every year.” ” Important Q: Will Congress actually revoke this money?”
Stelter tried to argue that PBS and NPR show how liberals and conservatives benefit from federally funded radio. Even though documentaries and education development are nice, there is sufficient evidence that Stelter’s claim to be completely false in spite of the fact that both systems ‘ media coverage bias far to the departed.

Therefore Stelter tried to play the” Why aren’t we more like Europe”? cards. He posted:
By the way,” Fifteen peer democracies spend an average of$ 70 per person on public media. In this state, we spend a whopping$ 3 per man”. That includes national revenue sources as well as numerous state funding sources. https ://t.co/YPjOd76W8Z— Brian Stelter ( @brianstelter ) February 4, 2025
Stelter’s mother always taught him that just because everyone else is doing something doesn’t mean we have to do it, which is something I can’t help but wonder about. If 15 “peer republics” ( to use that pathetic phrase ) jumped off a gate, we don’t have to do it. The non-U. S. people advertising cases I can think of, Canada’s CBC and the UK’s BBC, review from a far-left view as well, so nobody can make the argument that our “peer democracies” are good and sensible simply because they knife over more cash for their condition media.

Jonah Goldberg should be able to give a clown slap that would honor KDJ.
Or…. They would begin with something that isn’t fundamental to the proper function of government and is explicitly stated in the Constitution. Dude this is not a great argument.
— Jonah Goldberg ( @JonahDispatch ) February 4, 2025
Erick Erickson also participated in the clown-slapping action:
The left/media sure does b***h about Fox News a lot and deride it as state-sponsored media, but they defend the actual state-sponsored media to the death. Why? because it is controlled by the left. After MSNBC, NPR and PBS are the most consistently progressive outlets in America, but MSNBC still operates in the private sector.
My tax dollars are used to pay for NPR’s lecturing of Americans about Joe Biden’s lack of authenticity, and lecturing of Americans about Joe Biden’s ilk.
State-funded propaganda directed at Americans and governed by the left should be completely banned.
And it is absurd to think that we should start with$ 874 billion from the Defense Department rather than the incredibly affordable$ 535 million. It’s a powerful takeaway from a dying industry that is slowly committing suicide while blaming everyone else for the wound they have already inflicted.
Possibly the funniest thing about Stelter’s idiotic rant is that he didn’t go after” the children”. If PBS had to rely solely on “viewers like you,” he is aware that there would be plenty of good children’s programming. Instead, he wants to prop up the old saw that PBS and NPR are unbiased sources for news, but he’s not fooling anybody.

Bless his heart. Poor old Brian is aware that the only convincing argument he’s making is that he’s out of touch with what the American public has discovered about the left-wing media.
