A system of more than a few people and businesses are accused of facilitating the sale of thousands of barrels of Iranian fuel to China, and the US department of government on Thursday imposed restrictions on them.
More than a few people and businesses were sanctioned by the agency’s office of international property control in China, India, and the United Arab Emirates. Egyptian and American citizens, team management companies, and a collection of ships are among the targets.
In a news release, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the Iranian government is still focused on using its oil income to fund the development of its nuclear programme, the production of its lethal ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, and to support its local criminal proxy groups.
During his confirmation hearing, Bessent criticized the Biden administration’s restrictions plans and called for the US to own a more “muscular” sanctions program, including on Iran and Russian institutions and fuel.
In a statement released on Thursday, state department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that the US will use” all our tools” to hold the regime accountable for its destabilizing activities and pursuit of nuclear weapons.
President Donald Trump stated to reporters that” we will see whether or not we can arrange or work out a deal with Iran” while signing an executive order on Tuesday mandating the US government to put maximum pressure on Tehran.
” We don’t want to be tough on Iran. We don’t want to be tough on anybody”, Trump said. ” But they just can’t have a nuclear bomb”.
Trump continued, stating that he had given his advisers ‘ orders to obliterate Iran if it assassinated him.
Iranian officials appear to be indicating that they are awaiting a response from Trump regarding whether or not he wants to engage in negotiations over Tehran’s rapidly expanding nuclear program.
