Due to concerns that the food might be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, a Wisconsin business just recalled 5-ounce bundles of corn seeds.
In a Saturday press release, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) announced,” Jack and the Green Sprouts, Inc. of River Falls, Fi is recalling 5oz bundles of Alfalfa seeds that expired on 1/29/25 because they have the ability to be contaminated with , Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, sick or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems”.
The FDA added,” Although healthy people may suffer just short-term ailments such as high fever, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, chest pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among , female people”.
The FDA reported that Jack and the Green Sprouts first made the recall known on February 7 and that it affected 5-ounce corn grow items that had been distributed at nearby co-ops and grocery stores in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota.

Jack and the Green Sprouts ‘ website notes that the company’s products can be purchased” throughout , the Midwest , in local supermarkets, specialty markets ( such as co-op’s ), and wholesale distributors”.
According to the FDA’s press release, the corn grow plans were sold in obvious cheap items with “lot #687 UPC #763247198915” located on the top of the items. Additionally, the FDA noted that no symptoms have been reported as a result of the possibility of listeria pollution.
The FDA noted that the potential leakage was discovered after Minnesota’s daily screening showed” the reputation of , Listeria monocytogenes” in expired bundles of Jack and the Green Sprouts ‘ Alfalfa sprouts.
In a press release, the FDA advised anyone using expired 5-ounce Alfalfa grow packages to “use extreme prudence” when removing them.
Listeria infection is” the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the United States,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ). According to the CDC website, about 1,600 people in the United States are infected with listeria, and about 260 people pass away from listeria each season.
