STOCKHOLM: Sweden’s authorities said Wednesday it may raise safety at schools after the government’s worst mass killing left 10 dead, giving teachers the right to seek students ‘ bags among other measures.
Education secretary Johan Pehrson stated in a press conference that schools will be required to have emergency plans for violent conditions, access to schools may be required locks, door code, or badges, and camera surveillance authorizations may be simplified.
In primary and secondary schools, as well as adult learning centers, faculty and staff will have the right to search individuals ‘ bags without prior notice.
” We are working vigorously to increase protection for students, teachers and other school people”, Pehrson said.
The new procedures would go into effect on July 1, 2025, if they were approved by the legislature as anticipated.
Rickard Andersson, 35, killed 10 people when he entered the Risbergska child learning center in Orebro on February 4 and then allegedly self-töted himself.
