At the end of last month, the Democratic National Committee ( DNC ) held its leadership elections. These at PJ Media, we’ve covered it in bits and pieces. Every member for DNC head, according to my friend and colleague Matt Margolis, agreed that racism and misogyny were contributing factors to Kamala Harris ‘ battle. MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, who co-facilitated the platform, expressed his assent.

Robert Spencer, a friend and colleague, made the observation that Ken Martin, the new DNC head, has it on record saying he wants to prosecute Donald Trump for crime. Sigh. Robert even noted that the Democrats chose wormy, series beta-male David” Permascowl” Hogg as evil head, that option alone should illustrate how unserious the party is.
The DNC’s collection process turned out to be a byzantine disaster because of the Democrats ‘ devotion to identity politics. In an article titled” The Democrats Show Why They Lost,” Jonathan Chait aptly explained this.
” To ensure our approach accounts for adult, female, and nonbinary individuals, we conferred with our]Rules and Rules Committee ] co-chair, our LGBT Caucus co-chair, and others to ensure that the process is inclusive and meets the gender-balance needs in our laws”, outgoing head Jaime Harrison announced to the visitors. ( Feel free to make your own jokes about how Hogg fits into this gender spectrum. )
When audience members spoke up and wanted to aggravate the selection process, things got even more funny. According to Molly Ball of The Wall Street Journal, one visitor urged “making sure those appointments reflect the transgender and racial diversity of the community.” Just one candidate resisted giving up on that asinity.

No less a Democrat than critic and artist Joe Klein has noticed, the Democrats are in poor condition. In a new Substack row, he wrote:
Yes, friends, however outrageous after all these years…and the intruding dementia is no benign. Is this group become saved? I have my questions. The academic corrosion is complete, it is only matched by the self-righteous pride. But what’s the solution? I’ve been through Dems in Panic disorder many times in the past: in 1972, in 1980, in 1988, in 2016…but, gotta say, this is the worst I’ve ever seen it. The group is incredibly clueless worldwide. Its current dominant conception of an identity-based America presently resides in the shadows.
Oof. That’s as harsh an evaluation as I’ve seen. Klein lays the blame at the feet of the Biden administration, which he says “resulted in left-nuttiness below the detector throughout the state. Every so often, the weirdness had surface—as with the panic at the Southern border—and Biden may do nothing about it”.
But don’t get your desires up, Klein is still a politician’s liberal. He has swords for Donald Trump, and he still thinks there’s trust under the leadership of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N. Y. ), whom he claims has “big day confidence”. No, significantly.
Klein even offers tips, riffing on Ruy Texeira, that the Democrats may get back in the game if they stop name-calling, go modest on immigration, team up with Trump to reject identity politics, and “embrace power presence” ( whatever that means ). Of course, today’s Democrats aren’t likely to take any of that advice.
