People watching Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s immensely tone-deaf reply to her city’s light Caltastrophe have been treated to the variety and breadth of her people persona — her open character — which mainly consists of world-class eliding, smiling, and cheerleading. Unfortunately, it seems that only shouts are the thing this woman is capable of leading. And things just got worse with her first sit-down discussion. Despite the flames being contained, another one was set with this 17-minute howler. P. U.

It turns out that the fire chief was responsible for the National Weather Service’s unprecedented dire wind warnings, which caused Bass ( rhymes with ) to leave the nation and travel to Africa. She said this in a different way, of course, but she made it clear that President Biden wanted her to go to Ghana “on his behalf” and when” I talked about]the dire wind warnings ] with” the Fire Chief Kristin Crowley, the chief tamped her concerns.  ,
Angelenos won’t know that she consulted anyone about the weather estimates or traveling to Africa, but Elex Michaelson, a local Fox L.A. social writer, was able to explain why she did it. It served as the set up to throw Crowley under the vehicle. ( Wind warning: Kamala Harris has got nothing on Bass’s word salad ):  ,
Although there were instructions, I honestly didn’t know what our readiness was actually meant by [her pivot saying she was prepared for the flood from the rains that came after the flames, for which she wasn’t prepared], but that sort of preparation didn’t take place. I would not have even visited San Diego or left the country if that had happened, I will tell you Elex.
What do you think there were instructions you weren’t aware of, Michaelson said in response? Because I am aware that we were frequently discussing it on the reports and that people were discussing the issues and [warning that this was going to be a big deal]

Warm up the large, bright school van of blame because it will arrive. For what I believe to be the first time, Bass claimed that she had spoken with the fire captain about the severe weather instructions.  ,

” I, uh, talked about it with the fire chief ]and ] what she said is that we have warnings of Santa Ana winds a lot, but predicting , this” . , At this point, Bass wanders off to confirm the city didn’t prepare and then begins an entirely new verbal construction of why she didn’t know it would be so bad.  ,
“ So, it didn’t reach that level to me“ , , she said,“ to say something terrible could happen and maybe you shouldn’t have gone on a trip, but to me — I don’t know“. That alone is disqualifying. How out of reach can you be if you rely on others to share information about the devastating wind event that is a constant theme on television? Her team had to inform her that she couldn’t travel to see the president because she didn’t know the climate would be so terrible. How would that come over, specifically?  ,
To be honest, no one ever knows how terrible a storm function may be, but — has Karen Bass ever been in L. A. during Santa Anas?
She therefore pivoted to the Gavin Newsom patented reply that someone should do something about this , by saying,  ,” I mean I think that, that’s one of the items we need to look at look at but two studies are taking location..”. by the area and the fire department.  ,

She needs to conduct an investigation to determine whether the flames chief even messed up the assignment.  ,
She is unsure as of yet whether someone will get fired like her paid and obviously unqualified workers who are in charge of the fireplace department and the L.A. police department. Water and Power Department

She claimed that the state of California is to blame for the only clear water reservoir outside, adding that” the fire hydrant situation should also be looked at.” The pond, as you know, was a pond for having water. The reason why it was clear was that the state had ordered it to be done because the cover had a break in it.” .. For almost a month?
Worse, a request for access to Bass’s text messages in public records reveals that her leadership after returning from Ghana was erratic and lacking in general proper considerations, which is not surprising given how closely she is viewed from the leap.  ,
Lindsey Horvath, the officer of Los Angeles County, whose district includes Malibu and all of the burned-out areas of the Palisades fire, was beyond enraged by Bass. Bass was merely making choices and media events on his own rather of putting on a united front. The L. A. Times reported one transfer:

” You asked us to throw off the regular goods. We did. Wednesday, we want you to attend the news. No answer. We presently hear that you are taking on one without us while your departments are requesting it. wrote Horvath, whose region includes Pacific Palisades.
” Doesn’t feel quite’ secured arms’ to me”, she added, invoking a phrase Bass frequently uses to emphasize the importance of participation among government officials. The slogan is central to Bass ‘ political brand, with the mayor citing it at most public appearances.
Bass was also questioned by Michaelson when she stepped off the jet from Ghana about the “ambush” interview with a SkyNews reporter. Bass attributed the lack of response to the lengthy flight.  ,
“… You’ve been on a plane 17 hours and somebody hits you with a camera. I wish in hindsight my response had been better”, says the mayor, who merely stared dazedly at the reporter asking pertinent, on-point, and tough questions. What she did would have been better than what she did.
Michaelson asked about how long it would take before L. A. residents would get their homes rebuilt: three to five years, she predicted.  ,
Bass says she’s running for re-election in 2026 and hopes voters see her as a leader.  ,
Good luck, L. A.  ,
