West German city of Duisburg has developed an unconventional method to entice anxious voters to the polling place.
Voters in the city center who absentee ballots on Saturday received a voucher for a beer cart to purchase right next to the polling station by 2 p.m. local time ( 1300 GMT ).
The card may also be used to purchase non-alcoholic beverages. According to Duisburg officials, the uncommon project is being supported by a nearby beer.
About 80 electors had turned up within the first afternoon to take advantage of the offer, according to a writer with the European daa news agency present at the time.
History of small voter participation
The northern part of the city has previously had a lower voter turnout, according to Duisburg election national Martin Murrack.
In the 2021 federal election, for example, only 63.3 % of voters in the Duisburg II constituency turned up to vote, compared to a national average of 76.6 %.
Our carnivalists are making sure that the national vote is once again in the spotlight with this strange battle. It also appeals to voters who aren’t persuaded to cast ballots by conventional election poster or propaganda campaigns, according to Murrack, who described it as” a clear advantage for voter turnout and so for our politics”!
Europeans will go to the elections on February 23 to cast ballots in legislative elections that have been overshadowed by Donald Trump’s returning to the White House and a contentious national relocation conversation.
