OpenAI said on Friday that it had uncovered evidence that a Chinese security operation had built an artificial intelligence-powered surveillance tool to gather real-time reports about anti-Chinese posts on social media services in Western countries.
The tool’s creators claimed they had found this new strategy, which they called Peer Review, because some of the computer code used by those who were developing it was debugged using OpenAI’s technologies.

Nimmo and his team think that the Chinese security system is based on Llama, an AI technology created by Meta, which was openly made. Additionally, OpenAI reported that it had discovered a distinct Chinese promotion that used OpenAI’s technologies to create English-language content criticizing Chinese dissidents.
