Tokyo: On his birthday, the Japanese emperor Naruhito celebrated the 80th commemoration of the end of World War II, he renewed his desire for world peace, according to the Imperial Household Agency.
” I hope that this year, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, will be an occasion… to consider the uniqueness of harmony in our souls, and to maintain our commitment to serenity”, Naruhito said in a statement to the IHA back of his 65th birthday.
” I think it’s important to go on the horrible experiences and history of war to the generation that didn’t know about it,” he said.
” Many valuable lives were lost in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, air attacks on Tokyo and other places, ground wars in Okinawa, and brutal wars on Iwo Jima and overseas”, he added.
” I think it’s important to foster a love for peace by expanding our understanding of the past while no excluding those who have passed away and those who have suffered,” he said.
” I believe that even greater cooperation and collaboration within the global community is needed to create a forgiving culture that respects and accepts different values and a quiet earth,” he said, adding that the world is also suffering from wars, natural disasters, and climate change.
On August 15, Japan will observe its 80th anniversary of its surrender during World War II.
During WWII, Japan fought in China and Burma, today’s Myanmar, against Allied forces and tried to invade British-ruled India, of which Bangladesh was then a part.
The American dropped two nuclear weapons on Japan in August 1945, which brought the war to an end.
