US President Donald Trump made fun of federal employees who received an email from the department of government efficiency ( DOGE ) asking them to list their week-long accomplishments. The government’s post came as Elon Musk defended the controversial mandate, which some people have called “harassment”.
Trump posted an edited version of the well-known Nickelodeon film SpongeBob SquarePants on Sunday at Truth Social. SpongeBob was pictured in the image with a pencil in full view, while Patrick Star, his companion, had a listing titled” Got Done Last Week.” The comments included” cried about Trump”,” cried on Elon”, “made it to the company for once”, and “read some letters”. The record ended with the words” cried on Trump and Elon some more” These comments appeared to be directed at those who had been critical of the internet.
Trump’s tweet appeared to support Musk, whose agency sent the contentious message to all national employees over the weekend. Employees at the Office of Personnel Management ( OPM) were required to list five accomplishments by Monday at 11:59 pm, a practice that Musk described as a “very basic pulse check.” He added that failure to respond had been “taken as a departure”.
No obligation to respond.
Federal staff and unions were outraged by the order. The American federation of government employees ( AFGE ), which represents 800, 000 workers, strongly opposed the request. AFGE President Everett Kelley wrote in a text to OPM’s acting producer Charles Ezell that” we believe that people have no obligation to respond to this immoral email without other lawful instructions.”
The walk was also criticized by the National Treasury Employees Union, which referred to it as” the administration’s latest attempt to scare enthusiastic civil workers”.
The demand has been referred to as a “hostile work environment” by some national employees, and state department staff members have reportedly been instructed not to react. The recently appointed FBI producer, Kash Patel, advised providers to “pause any reactions” while the commission formulates a planned email.
Musk is referred to as a “d**k manager” by a Democrat senator.
Tina Smith, a senator from Texas, even spoke out, calling Musk’s policy” the greatest d**k boss move.”
There’s an email in your box on Saturday evening telling you to confirm your worth by Monday or more, according to the article. I’m on the side of the workers, never the businessman a**hole leaders”, Smith wrote on social media.
According to a federal employee from the Centers for Disease Control,” I can only imagine how many people they’ll fire based on this response or non-response.”
Musk defends the” trifling work.”
The software billionaire dismissed the outcry, calling the request” a trifling task” and reversing it. He claimed that DOGE had already received” a large number of great reactions” and that those who responded appropriately should be taken into consideration for promotions.
Followers of Musk’s law contend that this level of accountability is accepted in the private sector. Similar calls are frequently made when new administration takes over, according to non-profit professional Jeffrey Tucker. ” It is only causing cries and tragedies because it is govt”, he said.
Some questioned why federal employees should not be held accountable at work. It’s typical practice to review what you’ve accomplished to your boss, according to Ana Mostarac on X. Why does employees in the state sector be held to a different regular? If anything, doesn’t they been held to a higher normal, given the importance of their job”?
Asking a federal employee what they did last week is “psychological violence,” Mostarac claimed in another X article.
Numerous government departments have taken actions to stop or reject the internet. Some department of justice workers were instructed not to respond without receiving additional explanation.
