BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday hailed Moscow’s “positive attempts to alleviate” the Ukraine crisis in a visit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, state media said.
According to Xinhua news agency, Xi claimed that” China is pleased to see Russia and other parties make good efforts to alleviate” the Ukrainian crisis.
Since Russia sent soldiers into Ukraine, Moscow and Beijing have strengthened military and business relations, despite China’s efforts to portray itself as a natural group in the almost three-year issue.
Beijing has not condemned Russia’s actions, making some Nato members think Beijing is an “enabler” of the turmoil. It is still a close political and economic lover of Moscow.
Speaking of China’s ties with Russia, Xi said “history and truth” present the two countries “are good neighbours that cannot be moved aside, and true friends who share weal and woe, help each other and obtain common development”, Xinhua reported.
According to the state news agency, Xi and the Soviet leader were “on proposal” to make a phone call.
Both factors have made a lot of of Xi and Putin’s alleged solid personal ties, with Xi calling the Russian president his “best friend” and Putin praising his “reliable mate.”
The biggest issue in Europe since World War II broke out on Monday, three years after Putin declared his intention to start what he called a” unique military operation.”
